9:00-10:00 – And Then This Happened: The Year in Review

This session focuses on developments in labor and employment law over the past year.  We will discuss all things COVID as well as recent employment law cases that affect townships of all sizes.  Given the pace of change in 2021 so far, an hour may not be sufficient time to cover all of the developments in this fluid area of the law.

 10:10-11:10 – Correcting Employees—What Works and What Does Not

We will discuss the steps necessary to hold employees accountable and to, when necessary, impose appropriate discipline.  We will discuss the law on employee supervision and outline best practice on how to improve the personnel function in your township so that you get the best out of any employee.

 11:20-12:20 - What Everyone Needs to Know to Pay People Correctly

The purpose of this session is to reacquaint ourselves with the changing law of the FLSA which governs how employees are paid, what records an employee must keep, how overtime and bonuses are calculated, who is eligible for overtime and the penalties for violating the Act.  At the end of this session, you should be able to spot the most obvious issues with the FLSA that confront municipal employers and understand the best practices for addressing them.

1:20-2:20 - What Did This Guy Do? Employee Background Checks

In enacting Act 57 of 2020, the Pennsylvania General Assembly has taken substantial steps in regulating how employers provide information about former police officers.  This follows a trend regarding public school teachers and forecasts the necessity for employers to have to work harder to select the right employees and be rigorous about the background check those employees undergo before starting work.  In addition, we will discuss the increasing burden of reporting the right information to employers.

2:30-3:30 – Lawyer Crossfire – Stump the Lawyers

A panel of Eckert lawyers will field any and all questions from the audience and PSATS staff on any legal subject (we’re not making NFL picks).  Bring your questions and problems and get some free lawyer time from a panel of experienced municipal attorneys.  Moderated by PSATS staff, this is an informal, no-holds-barred discussion of real world problems and solutions.

Refunds for cancelling a webinar at any time will be subject to a $10 processing fee. 
For classes, (in-person and virtual), refunds for a cancellation sent to us between 10 and 2 business days before the class you are registered for will be subject to a $20 processing fee. Those who cancel within two business days of the class you are registered for, or do not attend, forfeit the full registration fee which, if unpaid, will be invoiced.
