Capital Improvements, Project Bidding, and How Story Maps "Easify" Planning- 1/22/20 - Lehigh County

In this half-day class, you will learn about several aspects of capital improvements and long term planning from experts at Cedarville Engineering Group.

For example, does your township regularly pursue grants, but then debate on what projects to fund during the application process? In the first session, learn about how a Capital Improvements Plan can help prioritize spending, streamline the decision-making process, and help to avoid infrastructure failures. There will also be discussion about how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can create efficiency in identifying, prioritizing, and communicating capital improvements to constituents.

Next, does the prospect of going through the bidding process on capital improvements or other projects seem like its very own project?  This session will review the “how to” of issuing a project for bid such as when the project must be bid, the bidding requirements, and the bid process.  We will also review wage rates and ensuring compliance with the various state laws that govern bidding.

Finally, are you looking for new ways to engage your community?  Maps have been educating and telling stories for centuries. In the final session, learn about how this age-old medium has been rejuvenated and revamped through ESRI’s “Story Map” platform. The presenters will discuss how this interactive and informative new medium has proven to be a powerful tool that is here to stay and can be used to engage, inform, and organize your township.
