On-Demand Webinar - Active Transportation Planning in Rural Communities

The session will focus on Planning in Rural Communities during the development of Westmoreland County’s first rural Active Transportation Plan. The Smithton Borough - Scottdale Borough Active Transportation Plan was adopted in December 2020 and provides an excellent example of how planners, local officials and county and regional partnerships, non-profits and institutional resources and state agencies can collaborate on community engagement and planning efforts. Capacity building at the local level was vital to developing a Plan that advanced active transportation priorities, projects and initiatives within local budgetary parameters and that met local governmental expectations.

Active transportation planning in rural communities presents a specific set of challenges that must be understood and appropriately addressed by both professional planners and local municipal officials. The presenters will identify the specific challenges associated with planning in smaller rural municipalities, including budget constraints, limited staff capacities, educating officials on the value and benefits of local planning and developing a participation process and communication plan that fits with local expectations. Relatable approaches for how these challenges were successfully overcome will be presented from a planner’s and municipal official perspective.

             *PSATS Member = Registrant has paid current annual membership dues to PSATS or one of its professional associations (e.g., Township Emergency Management Association, Township Engineers Association, Township Planners Association, Township Solicitors Association, or the Pa. Assoc. of Zoning Officials).

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS / NO SHOW POLICY:

Cancellations must be in writing, and can be sent to us by email to cancellations@psats.org; by fax to (717) 763-9732; or by mail to PSATS Education Program, 4855 Woodland Drive, Enola, PA, 17025. Refunds will be determined by the sent date of the notice.
Refunds for cancelling a webinar at any time will be subject to a $10 processing fee. 
For classes, (in-person and virtual), refunds for a cancellation sent to us between 10 and 2 business days before the class you are registered for will be subject to a $20 processing fee. Those who cancel within two business days of the class you are registered for, or do not attend, forfeit the full registration fee which, if unpaid, will be invoiced.
